Bleak House

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

We regret to announce that as of 16/03/2020 we are suspending our tour of Bleak House indefinitely. We have agreed with our venues that this is the best course of action to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Ticket holders will hear from us or our venues in due course.

From years of performing in the open air we know how to keep a smile even in a downpour. And even in these unprecedented times we will find ways to spread joy, without spreading viruses. We’ll have some exciting new (not live!) projects to announce shortly.

So, on the positive side, hopefully many lives will be saved and that’s what we have to focus on right now.

And yet we cannot overstate how potentially devastating this is for our business, the actors and artists we collaborate with and the wider theatre industry. As a company we started with nothing. In the past we have made losses, had cast illnesses, had vans trapped in the snow and been attacked by a peacock and yet no challenge we have faced previously is as precarious as this: a unexpected and immediate stop to all of our income for an undisclosed amount of time.

But enough doom and gloom! As I said, previously we’re currently exploring new avenues of work that will hopefully keep us and our collaborators afloat. In the meantime there is something thing you can do to help: if you have booked a ticket to one of our cancelled performances please, if you can afford to, please consider refusing a refund and donating the ticket money to the continued survival of the venue and The Pantaloons.

Also, most importantly, please follow all available advice for stopping the spread of the disease and keep yourself and your loved ones healthy. The sooner virus cases go into decline, the sooner everyone can get back to their lives and we can steal your picnics again.

Yes, we’re optimistic that things will be safer later in the year and are currently expecting to go ahead with our summer tours mostly as planned, we’ll have more information about that shortly.

Stay safe, stay positive and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Producer and co-artistic director, The Pantaloons
